+Roderick Eime was given the opportunity to take the new Harley Davidson Sports 500 #Sports500 for a test ride so I thought the 4 ferries ride would be an appropriate run to see what it was like.
Hopfully I will be able to share his thoughts in a future story.
We met at the 7-Eleven at Berowra and after filling the tanks (always start a ride with a full tank) we headed for our
first ferry, the Berowra Waters Ferry.

From Berowra Waters we headed for our
second ferry, The Sackville Ferry.

|
We crossed the Hawkesbury River on the Sackville Ferry then on for Morning Tea at the oldest Church in Australia,
The Ebenezer Chuch.

Morning tea awaits. |
After Morning tea, we returned to the Harleys for the next river crossing at our
third ferry, the Lower Portland Ferry.

We paused just after leaving the Church as Rod had spotted an old tractor in a paddock next to the road. He told he photos old tractors for a friend.

An interesting road lead us to Wiseman's Ferry for our next crossing. The were a few moments where we nearly did make it as the road is narrow and the cars coming the other way around the corners were wider than normal. When travelling on this road exercise caution. The gravel is now only a hundred metres in two sections.

As we crossed the Hawkesbury River at our
fourth ferry, the Wiseman's Ferry ferry and by the other side, we had travelled the 4 Ferries, our journey continued to lunch at Spencer.

Burger with the works and an Iced Coffee. It's been a long ride! |
From Spencer we were bound for Newcastle though some more back roads called and we answered. I had never been to Yarramalong and will have to return another day to check out the Devonshire teas at Yarramalong Manor. Any excuse for another ride. We took the old Pacific Highway past Doyalson and filled at Elizabeth Bay, the trip being 210 kilometres tat that stop and neither of us knew how far a Sports 500 would go on a tank. It had only 2/3 of the Softail Deluxe's thirst.
The day's journey ended at the
Best Western Plus Apollo International Hotel at Charlestown.
It doesn't come under the motorcycle friendly grouping but there is undercover parking, well away from the prying eyes of the street. I had another day's ride to come home so wasn't concerned about washing Show Pony.

A freshen up and dinner was next on our schedule.

3rd Course Dessert as selected by chef Sam. He know better than to have us drink another glass of wine. |
An interesting sleep as I was entertained during the night by Rod's renditions of motorcycle sounds though it did sound like snoring. OK, I was warned.
The next day we parted company but first breakfast to ensue we have enough energy to our rides.
|
No need for help selecting this menu. |
Post breakfast I packed and headed back to Sydney but I did have a stop at another favourite motorcycle food stop. The Pie In the Sky AKA The PITS.
|
The line ups. The steeds await the riders' orders. |
|
And I still couldn't get all the motorcycles in. |
And so the weekend ended, most memorable.
I hope you enjoyed reading this.
