Sue is sent on a Birthday ride whilst Warren goes to play sax.

OK, Now I have your attention I will start the tale of Sue's Birthday ride but the number though I know it remains a secret.

Trevor and Kate from Troll Tours www.trolltours.com.au contacted me to do a 2 hour job. Trevor in all the excitement forgot to get Sue's name but had all the other details though I should report they were not all correct.

I arrived 15 minutes early and what was to be a surprise, appeared not to be so. Warren, as with all us good husbands could not keep the secret from his wife and so Sue knew of the upcoming ride. Sue was ready with jeans and boots but unsure if she really wanted to go.

As I removed the matt black helmet with the reflective visor, my Chrome (grey, silver) beard and locks gave away I was not some youngster and her confident grew.

We paired the intercom so Sue could be entertained with my commentary due to me now a full member of the Institute of Australian Tour Guides. www.iatg.com.au .

Sue told me, she and Warren regularly ride their bicycles on day and weekend trips in some of the areas we would be travelling through, so I guessed this trip was going to cover more miles in less time.

The route was to be a mixture on back roads, highways and freeways with speeds ranging from 50 to 100 kilometres / hour. The first part of our journey was Henry Lawson's Drive which runs along the side of the George's River. We crossed the river to Alford's Point then to Heathcote Road, as Heatcote, south to Waterfall then the old Highway.

Our first and would become our only stop was the Sublime Point Lookout.

What a day for a ride a for a ride with the proceeding days having thunderstorms and flooding. As you can see from the lookout at Sublime Point.

Down we travelled through Bulli Pass where Sue told me of her cycling down this road and being told not to use her brakes. Well today we used the engine's breaking and the disc brakes front and back.

At the bottom of the Pass, we headed north passing the Northern Beaches of Wollongong and crossing the Sea Cliff Bridge.

The next stop was to be Bald Hill but we were now running a little late as the full National Park ride lay ahead of us and Warren would be starting sax without us.

At the half way point, I asked Sue if we should take the quicker route through to Waterfall but Sue was now into the motorcycling thing and so we continued through the Northern half of the park to return to the highway at Loftus.

Out of the park we head for Carss Park where Warren is playing sax in the community band. A little scare fro Sue but I knew what was happening as we battle the traffic and we arrived just 25 minutes late. The band is in full swing.

I had never considered 'Little Brown Jug' to be a Christmas song but they were playing it as we arrived.

I left Sue to enjoy the rest of the day enjoying the band as I returned home with 'Show Pony'.

Highlight for me was when Sue said she had had a great time for her birthday ride.

In the words of the Lone Ranger at the end of each episode, "My work here is done now" so maybe I should rename 'Show Pony' 'Silver' and ride away saying "Hi-ho Silver away".
I’ll think about that and get back to you.
