Newsletters - Due South Motorcycle Tours – South Africa October 2014

My friend Joe at Due South Motorcycle Tours – South Africa has written to me about his happenings for October 2014 up coming tours and though I am unable to currently undertake one, I thought I would share with you what Joe is offering.

His message for October is as follows:

Greetings,
As we, the people of the South, head into summer proper we are enjoying some warm early weather with the promise of rain to sate the countryside.  The recent ‘Lowveld Legend’ tour a few weeks ago has zero rain except for a heavy mist which descended onto ‘Long Tom’ pass as we headed to our first overnight on the pass.  The next morning greeted us with blue skies, followed by an entire week enjoying mild balmy Spring weather until our last day when we departed from the Timbavati region of the Greater Kruger Park back up to the Highveld (highlands), the mild weather gave way to a warm morning followed by upward of 35c later in the day, which we missed out on as we were long gone and back up at altitude by midday!

Tour Focus – ‘Cape Conquest” (8 days)
A fairly recent inclusion on the motorcycle touring calendar.  It has proven to be immediately popular, no doubt due to the reputation the ‘Cape’ has for natural beauty, mountains and stunning coastline.  The ‘Cape’ certainly offers that and much more   The tour spends a full day exploring the Cape Peninsula (Cape Town, Cape Point, Chapman’s Peak, Houtbay etc.), visits the Southern most point in Africa (Cape Agulhas, Agulhas means ‘needles’ in Portuguese, the first European visitors, as the needle of the compass shows due north without deviation at this point).  The ride includes the ‘Garden Route’ with the incomparable ‘Storms River Mouth’.  ‘Route 62” takes you through the ‘Little Karoo’ encapsulated between the Swartberg and Langeberg Mountains offering fantastic riding passes, wine farms and arid beauty with a myriad of incredible plants appearing magically in Spring annually.  A night on the edge of the ‘Great Karoo’ in a ‘one horse’ village which I defy anyone to find on a physical map!  A swim in a windmill fed swimming pool and stoep talk (verandah or porch talk) after dinner under a starry canopy makes for a memorable stopover.  We strongly suggest a few days additional budgeted after the tour to enjoy Cape Town.

Great White Shark - Cage Viewing Experience
A welcome addition to this tour near Gansbaai, this little fishing village is the ‘Great White’ capital of the word with the highest concentration of ‘White Sharks’ on the planet.  After  a heart breakfast a fully equipped ski boat whisks you out to ‘Shark Alley’ within eye shot of the coastline.  On my first ‘dive’ I fully expected to be waiting a bit and settled down to a spot of sunbathing… within 5 minutes the first massive shadow was spotted glidding underneath the boat, several more appeared, the first sighting was amazing… then… in the water with ‘Jaws’

Google Words
A great way to catch a glimpse of our tour offerings is to ‘Google’ the following words (type in ‘South Africa’ followed by the relevant word and enjoy the images and info):
Cape Town, Chapman’s Peak, Gansbaai Sharks, Little Karoo, Route 62, Great Karoo, Storms River Mouth, Cape Agulhas, Wine Farms, Table Mountain, Camps Bay, Hermanus
(these search words pertain specifically to the ‘Cape Conquest tour)
