A Berry scenic ride with Amy and Daniel adds to their weekend away.

Kate at Troll Tours www.trolltours.com.au had contacted me about a tourist ride starting at Berry, south of Sydney. It was suggested a 2 hour ride which I could not make an interesting one, as we would have to be riding all the time without stops. Fun if you just like riding but so we knew it would take longer.

The trip down to Berry is about an hour and half so Kym and I allowed plenty of time and arrived into Berry about 35 minutes early. Just enough time to try a local coffee shop. Our random choice was Just Delicious Cafe http://berry.org.au/just-delicious . We ordered the coffee and went to take a seat and there was material laying over the back of one chair at each table. We were to discover they were blankets as some of the regulars sat done and placed them over their laps. Kym and I were wrapped up for the ride so no need for us to use the blankets.

As we had been travelling down to Berry, we had noticed groups of motorcyclist of all persuasions gathering along the roadside. I know the weather was good for riding but didn't know about the Ride for Mental Awareness 2014 ride which was to run Albion Park to Jambaroo via Nowra.

With coffee finished we head for the pickup point at a Bed and Breakfast just out of town. Amy and Daniel were waiting for us and we soon had everything and everybody ready to roll.

We said goodbye to the owners of the Bed and Breakfast and they were interested in a ride when we returned. We headed back to Berry and could not get back on to the Princes Highway due to to the continual stream of motorcycles participating in the Ride for Mental Awareness. Finally a rider let's us in and we headed for the other end of town and took the right turn onto Kangaroo Valley Road. The Harley and Victory were put to the test as we climbed to the ridge top. We took the turn to Cambewarra Lookout and the view did not disappoint.

We remounted and headed for Kangaroo Valley. We travelled through town and I pointed out some of the places of interest but we are not stopping today (refer to previous posts as Kangaroo Valley has been visited a few times.). We passed the General Store at Barrengarry who claim 'The World's Best Pies' but not today as they were closed. Another big workout for the bikes as we climbed the escarpment to travel through the Southern Highlands on our way to the turnaround point of Robertson. Robertson is famous for potatoes, the area where 'Babe' the movie was made and a regular motorcycle stop, the Robertson Pie stop. We would continue through as we are dining at Jamberoo.

With the Robertson Pie on our left, we turned right and took the Jamberoo Mountain Road, a lot less traffic than Macquarie Pass, when we reached the T junction at the botton we turned right and into Jamberoo township. The pies, turnover with cream and drinks were well received.

It was time again to hit the road and the next stop was Saddleback Mountain lookout and the big V twins take it in their stride.

Guys, the view's behind you.
The last stop along the way.
We remounted and headed down to Kiama and the views just opened up as we travelled. Thank goodness for the watertank on the hill as it reminds me its a right turn. At the bottom of this hill its 'curves time', first the small ones leading back to the highway then the Kiama Bends. We took the coast road at Gerringong and past Gerroa turn right onto Beach. Along the way we passed Harley Hill Cemetery and continued on the easy trip back to the B and B.

Amy and Daniel were very polite and said they had a great ride. Too kind and it makes the job worthwhile. Amy and Daniel were staying an extra night and heading back to Sydney the next day.

Kym and I headed back home for a home made coffee and a chat.
