What a glorious day and the forecast had no doom or gloom weather-wise. 15 motorcycles of various
makes and models, two with pillions awaited the adventure. After the newbie leader (me) described the route to be taken we were soon underway.
First fail of the day, the leader and tail end Charlie could not get there two way radios to work. Oh well, the old tried and true, rider leader rides under the speed limit (as if this is not the norm) and tail end Charlie ends up just over it and everyone is happy in the middle.
The ride takes us down the old highway to Appin Road and a turn to the right.
We arrive at Appin and one of NSW’s finest has lights flash to our right so we turn left which was the plan anyway but why spoil a good story. Down Broughton Pass and onto the Douglas Park turn another excursion down a gorge and we climb to Douglas Park. Left turn on Menangle Road and Picton Road where we turn right. Before Picton and the expected Hole in the Wall, we turn left and cross the wooden bridge. Left and rights and we stop for morning tea at Thirlmere as anyone from 'The Shire' would do at this time of day, we eat.
Returning to the road and down to Tahmoor on the Old Hume Highway and head south turning right to travel through Yanderra and Yerrinbool on Remembrance Drive. The fire damage to the trees on
the side of the road was obvious as we passed through the area. Sudden left at the Old Southern Road which always makes for an interesting change of direction. A new roundabout at the Range Road and we find the road narrows as we travel along it. Left at Glenquarry and the Tour ist Road.
Second fail of the day, road works with an exuberant water truck driver. The gravel is not as bad as it first looked and we all ride on. The top of Macquarie Pass is also a construction zone with Mr ‘I have no idea’ in charge of traffic control. Eventually we make the right hand turn to the Jamberoo Mountain Road and left turn to Jamberoo. Little traffic so an easy ride. At Jamberoo there is plenty of parking in the car park and a choice of the Pastry shop or Pub. ‘The Incognitos’ (bad boys with no colours) are drinking at the pub so we dine at the Pastry shop.
Well fed, some go their different way as the fuel station calls. Back up the Princes Highway and freeway so most return together to say farewells at Heathcote.
My Burgundy beastie had a missing under acceleration from Jamberoo. That means it wants some quality time with the mechanic but will have to wait as ‘Show Pony’ Harley has taken the motorcycle fund.
Thank you to those who joined me for my first ride leader run with the St George Sutherland Branch of the Ulysses Club and a special thanks to my Tail-end Charlie (Crew member Kym) for holding the line and helping me not lose anyone.

The pastry shop at Thirlmere. The town is better known for its Rail Museum. |
Not the busiest town in New South Wales. Part of the attraction I guess. |

Road food at Jamberoo Pastry Shop. Yes it's a real baked custard tart. |
