A close encounter that was almost too close in the Royal National Park.

Kym suggested we go for a ride down to our favourite Cafe in the park behind Stanwell Park beach.
The weather was fine though a bit hot. This gave us the idea to turn off the highway at Waterfall, NSW and travel through the lower part of 'The Park'.

For my American readers, the ride through the Royal National Park just south of Sydney is like riding along Mulholland Highway though our 'Park Ride' is much bushier, has clusters of cyclists riding two abreast and there is normally a police presence as the speed limit is 60 kilometres an hour (just over 35 mph) through most of the park with unbroken lines meaning no overtaking. This gets interesting when you come up behind said cyclists. Oh and I do remember see Highway Patrol when I travelled along Mulholland Highway.

Back to the story. Having followed a car whose driver thought the only pedal to use was the brake and that was all the way down from the highway, he turns left and we turn right (south) to head for Stanwell Park.

I was on 'Show Pony' so there was no way I was going to be travelling over the speed limit for at one of the 45 KPH corners I was met with the following scenes. I was testing a new action camera, unfortunately it does not like being mounted on Show Pony's handle bars but I think you will get the idea.

The Sena (bluetooth communication) units Kym and I had on, really got a workout as we discussed what had just happened. Fortunately no children were connected to the system.

We survived and had something to talk further about over Ice Coffees and Hamburgers. I didn't lose my appetite so its must not have been that close.
