How to communicate with other riders in your group.

When I ride with friends we normally have a preride briefing about important stuff like; how far can everyone get on a tank of fuel, where the stops will be and a brief description of the road to be taken.

Someone we hope will volunteer to be tail-end charlie and preferably its someone with a big highly visible bike. One friend used to have a Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic and he would ride with the headlight (no choice in NSW) and the two running lights on. When you saw the 3 lights, you knew its was normally him. He then went and sold it.

We are slowly becoming more techie and have bluetooth intercoms and some have 2 way radios as well and the last resort are mobile phones.

All these rely on everyone having charged their units before the ride. That one is up there with, 'everyone arrives at the start of the ride with a full tank of fuel'. Yeah that will happen one day, maybe!

I found this little guide to hand signals but for it to work, everyone would have to know what each means. Did I mention some of the riders memories are getting weary or was it really the 70's that did it?

So enough of the preamble, here is someone's suggestion of Motorcycle Hand Signs.

Enjoy the company your good riding friends.

One day we may ride together, I just hope I can remember all those signals.
